As kids Mom used to read Sam, Pete and I The Tomten by Astrid Lindgren. I loved the story and was delighted when Mom visited my classroom this year and read it to the kids. The receiving room at the Swedish Institute was decked out with a bunch of Tomtens and you can see some in the above photo. Actually, if you look to the right of the picture you can see one of a couple that were in the fireplace. You can see me snapping the photo in the mirror above.
Dale and I caught A Charlie Brown Christmas on television the other night. It's my favorite holiday special. Sam, Pete and I loved watching this as kids and waited with anticipation for it to be on.
By December 1969 the family was settled into the new house on Stevens and getting ready for the holidays. (Top photo developed Feb. 1970 but taken in December 1969)
Sam and I at the house on Stevens. Sam was plagued by ear, nose and throat problems and cried a lot. I didn't mind because I loved having a little brother.
1970 is the first year that the whole manger scene appears in a photograph. The Mary, Joseph and Jesus figures, along with an angel appear in a photo from 1968. Mom made all the figures and Dad built the wooden form to house them. The manger scene is now in the possesion of Pete's family.
In the bottom two photos Sam and I are playing with the Weebles Marina. The Weebles wobbled but they didn't fall down. They were egg shaped figures and this year we got a marina set for them.
Shown here is my neighborhood friend, Paul, who lived up the street. He stopped by for a pre-Christmas visit. In the bottom photo I'm holding a picture of the Snuffaluffagus from Sesame Street.
